CLOUD STORAGE GUIDE

Can E-Ink tablets use Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive?

Yes, but the useful difference is not the list of cloud logos. Supernote can synchronize selected folders, reMarkable browses and transfers files through named integrations, BOOX can use Android apps, and current Kindle Scribes move copies in and out manually.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Most current E-Ink tablets can reach cloud storage. They do not all keep the same file in sync.

Choose Supernote when selected-folder synchronization is the goal. Choose reMarkable for a focused browse, import and PDF-export workflow. Choose BOOX when you need Android cloud apps or a provider outside the usual three. Choose a 2025-or-later Kindle Scribe for simple Google Drive or OneDrive document copies.

Before buying, draw the whole journey: where the original lives, what arrives on the tablet, what format leaves it and whether later edits travel automatically. “Supports Google Drive” can describe a live folder, a copied PDF or an Android app. Those are very different promises.

HOW THIS GUIDE WAS MADE

This is a documentation comparison, not a cloud reliability test.

Yeinks checked current manufacturer help pages on October 24, 2026. We did not connect the same managed Google, Microsoft and Dropbox accounts to every tablet, so we are not rating transfer speed or long-term reliability. Employer security rules, regional app availability, firmware and provider permissions can change what an individual account can do.

AT A GLANCE

This table describes the manufacturers' current documented routes. A provider may still block a work account, require administrator approval or change app support.

COPY, SYNC OR BACKUP?

Three words that should not be used interchangeably

A copy is a second file created by an import or export. Future changes do not travel automatically. Sync compares a folder or library across locations and moves changes, which is convenient but can also create conflicts or spread a deletion. A backup preserves a recoverable version separately from day-to-day work.

A synchronized folder is not automatically a good backup. If deleting a file on the tablet also removes its cloud copy, keep another verified copy outside that sync relationship.

HOW EACH PLATFORM WORKS

Pick the file journey, then pick the tablet

01

reMarkable: clean integrations, deliberate transfers

reMarkable documents direct integrations with Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive. You can browse those services on the tablet, copy compatible files into My files and export notes, PDFs and ebooks to a connected account. It supports up to five linked accounts, and its OneDrive integration can expose SharePoint drives when the account permits it.

The key word is copy. Imported files are placed in reMarkable's own file area so you can work offline. Exports are saved to the cloud as PDFs. That is tidy for reading a source document, marking it up and returning a stable review copy. It is not a live mount where edits on either side continually update one master file.

Basic Google Drive, Dropbox and OneDrive integration is available without Connect. Some conversion workflows are different: reMarkable says importing Word files and Google Docs as editable notebooks requires Connect. Check the format you use, not only the provider name.

02

Supernote: selected folders can genuinely synchronize

Supernote's current transfer guide documents Supernote Cloud, Dropbox and Google Drive. You choose a provider, select the folders to synchronize and run sync from the tablet. This suits someone who wants a project folder to appear on both the Supernote and another computer without exporting each note by hand.

That convenience needs a little discipline. A sync system must decide what happens when the same file changes in two places, or when a file is moved or deleted while another device is offline. Supernote advises finishing work and completing sync on one device before editing the same file on another. Its recent software also includes conflict detection, but prevention is still simpler than choosing between two versions after an important meeting.

Native Supernote note files remain most useful inside the Supernote system. Export a PDF, PNG, TXT or DOCX when someone else needs a conventional file, and confirm that the exported version contains the handwriting, links or text they expect.

03

BOOX: the widest choice, with more setup

BOOX documents built-in connections for Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and WebDAV services such as Nextcloud. On models with Google Play, you can also install a provider's Android app instead. The built-in route can download files for NeoReader, embed PDF annotations for upload and send note exports to the connected service.

This gives BOOX a route that the focused platforms do not have. If a company uses a specialist document system or you need an app's offline-file controls, an Android client may be the only practical option on E-Ink. It can also introduce more moving parts: app permissions, background restrictions, account security, refresh tuning and the difference between a provider's cached file and BOOX's local library.

Built-in storage is not completely automatic. BOOX says some providers do not automatically expose a changed file, so you may need to download it again. Decide separately where source documents, notes and annotations are meant to live, then test that each change reaches the correct copy.

04

Kindle Scribe: simple cloud copies on current models

Amazon's cloud-drive connections support Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive on Kindle Scribe models released in 2025 or later. You can browse compatible files, preview a page, import a copy into the Kindle library and later send a document or notebook back to the drive as a PDF.

Amazon is explicit that the files do not automatically synchronize with the source drive. Importing the same source again creates another copy. An exported document goes into a Kindle Scribe folder in the connected account, and a file loaded over USB cannot be sent back through the cloud-drive connection.

This is a sensible reading-and-annotation path, not a shared working-folder system. It is also model-specific. The 2022 and 2024 Scribes should not be bought on the assumption that a feature advertised for 2025-or-later hardware will appear.

Keep one editable master file live everywhereTest before buyingSeveral platforms copy or convert files. A visible cloud icon does not guarantee a live round trip.

TEST THE ROUND TRIP

Use a disposable folder before trusting important work

  1. Create a test folder and keep the master elsewhere. Use harmless files with no personal, client or confidential information.
  2. Include three formats you actually use. A PDF, a native note and a Word document expose different conversion and export rules.
  3. Change one file on the tablet. Add handwriting, rename it and move it. Record which changes reach the provider and in what format.
  4. Change another file in the cloud. Confirm whether the tablet receives it automatically, after manual sync or only after a fresh import.
  5. Try an intentional conflict. With test files only, edit the same item in two places and see whether the platform creates a conflict copy or overwrites one version.
  6. Open the result on a different computer. Check annotations, page order, file name and destination folder. A successful upload icon is not the same as a usable document.

For work that must continue without a connection, read our guide to using E-Ink tablets offline. If the provider's full Android app is essential, compare app support across E-Ink platforms. Our Word document guide explains why a file that opens may still come back in a different format.

BOTTOM LINE

Yes, E-Ink tablets use cloud storage. Buy for the arrows, not the logos.

Supernote offers the clearest selected-folder sync. reMarkable keeps cloud access focused around deliberate imports and PDF exports. BOOX gives you the broadest provider choice through Android. Current Kindle Scribes make Google Drive and OneDrive convenient for copy-based reading and annotation.

None of those descriptions is automatically better. The right one is the route that returns a usable file to the place your work already lives, without asking you to remember a fragile sequence every time.
