QUICK ANSWER
Check the cloud library before repairing the Scribe.
Open Amazon's Manage Your Content and Devices page in a browser and find the missing book. If it is there, choose Deliver or remove from device, select the exact Scribe and then run Sync My Kindle once. On the Scribe, set Library to All, clear filters and sort by Recent.
If the item is not in the online library, restarting the Scribe cannot deliver it. Check the Amazon account, order or loan instead. If every title is queued, confirm Wi-Fi with one harmless online action, restart the Scribe and compare its software with Amazon's exact-model page. Do not deregister or factory-reset first.
IDENTIFY THE FAILURE
“Not syncing” describes several separate problems
Recent Scribe owners have reported new books appearing only after a restart, library items failing to refresh and downloads sitting in a queue. Similar reports span more than one Scribe generation, but they do not prove a single bug or a failure rate.
Check the same Amazon account, Digital Orders and any library-loan status before changing the Scribe.
Deliver it to the exact device, clear Library filters, sync once and wait for the view to refresh.
Test one small book on another network. Compare the result with a different title.
Restart, check exact-model software and report the time and network tests to Amazon.
Before troubleshooting, record the exact Scribe model, installed software, the title and content type, the Amazon account used, the time you last tried and the wording shown under the cover. Note if the same item opens in a Kindle phone app. That turns “it will not sync” into a test Amazon can follow.
SAFE, REVERSIBLE CHECKS
Work from the account toward the device
- Confirm the item exists online. In Manage Your Content and Devices, open Content and look for the book or document. For a new purchase, Amazon says to check its status under Digital Orders if it is missing here.
- Confirm the correct account and device.A household can have several Amazon accounts and similarly named Kindles. Match the Scribe under Devices before using Deliver or remove from device.
- Clear the Library view.Choose All, remove active filters, sort by Recent and search for the title. A Downloaded filter can make a cloud item look absent.
- Deliver the title manually.Choose the item online, use Deliver or remove from device and select the exact Scribe. This confirms which device Amazon was asked to target.
- Run one manual Sync.Use Settings, then Sync My Kindle or Sync and Check for Items. Leave the Scribe awake on Wi-Fi while the library refreshes instead of tapping Sync repeatedly.
- Restart without erasing anything.Use the power menu's Restart command. If it does not respond, Amazon's forced restart is a 40-second power-button hold.
- Check official software for the exact model.Compare Device Info with Amazon's Kindle E-Reader software list. Never install a package for another Scribe model.
This guide is for books, samples and personal documents in Library. If handwritten Scribe notebooks are stale or missing in the Kindle app, use the notebook-sync guide and protect recent writing before removing anything.
ISOLATE THE SCOPE
Compare one title, another title and another network
If one purchased book is present online but will not download, try a different small Kindle book or sample. If the second item downloads, the connection works and the first title needs item-specific help. Do not delete a personal document if its only good copy may be on the Scribe.
If no title downloads, open a simple page in the Kindle Store or browser, move closer to the router and confirm Airplane mode is off. Amazon's Wi-Fi guide supports restarting the Kindle and router, then trying a phone hotspot or another trusted network. A successful hotspot test points back to the original network, not the book.
One recent owner linked repeated library refresh trouble to an incorrect device time after changing networks. Amazon also lists incorrect time as a cause of Kindle registration trouble. Check the displayed time and automatic time setting, but do not present this as a proven fix for every queued download.
IF DOWNLOADS STAY QUEUED
Do not turn a delivery delay into data loss
Leave one small title queued for a reasonable test period while the Scribe is awake and connected. Large batches can make the result harder to read. Record if the cover changes, an error appears or the item returns to an undownloaded state.
- Remove only a verified cloud download. If one book is safely present in Manage Your Content and Devices, removing its local download and downloading it again is lower risk than touching the account. Do not choose permanent deletion.
- Keep personal files backed up.For a document sent from your computer, keep the source file. If a document exists only on the Scribe, copy it elsewhere before any removal or support-led account step.
- Do not chase unverified database fixes.Deleting Vocabulary Builder entries, modifying Kindle files from a computer or using unofficial firmware is not part of Amazon's library checklist and can create a second problem.
- Avoid deregistration and reset as experiments.Deregistering disconnects the device from purchased content. Amazon says a factory reset also removes personal data, downloads and content that has not synced.
A service-side or entitlement problem may affect one item or many devices and cannot be repaired by erasing the Scribe. If two networks and a restart produce the same result, preserve the evidence and escalate.
WHEN TO ESCALATE
Give Amazon the point where the chain breaks
Contact Amazon if an item is absent from Manage Your Content and Devices despite a completed order or active loan, a delivered item never appears after a clean sync, two known-good networks fail, all downloads remain queued after restart and current software, or the problem keeps returning.
Provide the exact Scribe model, serial number privately, installed software, account email privately, title and content type, order or loan status, remaining storage, networks tested, delivery time and error wording. Say if another Kindle app can see or open the item. Ask Amazon to check the item's entitlement and device delivery before suggesting deregistration or reset.
