QUICK ANSWER
Do not factory-reset a Kindle Scribe just because a notebook is missing or stale.
Stop editing the affected notebook, keep Airplane mode off, confirm Wi-Fi works and make sure Sync is on under Settings > Device Options. From Quick Actions, tap Sync. On the phone or tablet, open the Kindle app, choose More > Sync now, then refresh the notebook view.
Amazon says Scribe notebooks are backed up only when the device is online and Sync is on. A missing page in the app does not prove that the cloud has the newest version. If the Scribe still shows your writing, export a readable copy before removing a download, deregistering or resetting anything.

FIRST, PROTECT THE NOTE
Assume recent handwriting may still exist only on the Scribe
Recent owner reports describe notebooks appearing late or incompletely in the Kindle app, repeated sync errors and, in rarer cases, pages disappearing after more disruptive troubleshooting. These reports do not establish how common the problem is, but they explain why the safest order matters.
- Stop changing the affected notebook.Do not add pages on a second Scribe or repeatedly open and edit several copies while you are unsure which one is newest.
- Check what is still visible.Note the notebook name, page count and the last page you can see on the Scribe and in the Kindle app. Take photos of any error and important pages if export is unavailable.
- Make a readable copy if sharing works.Email or export the notebook and open the result before continuing. The PDF is not an editable backup, but it protects the information.
If the newest handwriting has not reached Amazon's cloud, those actions can remove the only usable copy. A reset is not a sensible first sync test.
TRY THIS IN ORDER
Use reversible checks before touching notebook storage
- Confirm the Scribe is genuinely online.Turn off Airplane mode and connect to Wi-Fi. Open the Kindle Store or download a small book sample if you need a harmless connection test.
- Confirm Sync is on.Open Settings, choose Device Options and check Sync. Amazon warns that data created while Sync is off may not be backed up.
- Run one manual sync.Swipe down for Quick Actions and tap Sync. Leave the Scribe awake and connected for several minutes. Do not keep tapping the command.
- Refresh the receiving app.On iPhone, iPad or Android, confirm the app uses the same Amazon account. Choose More, then Sync now. Clear any library filters, refresh the notebook view and reopen the notebook.
- Compare with a small test notebook.Create a temporary notebook with one unmistakable line, sync once and check the app. If it arrives but the original does not, the problem is likely specific to the original notebook.
- Restart normally.Use the power menu's Restart command while the Scribe is charged. After it starts, reconnect to Wi-Fi and run one more manual sync.
- Check for official software.Compare your model and installed version with Amazon's update page. Install only the package for the exact Scribe model, or let the device update automatically.
READ THE RESULT
The pattern tells you what not to change
The Scribe and cloud copy were probably ahead of the app. Confirm the newest page, then export important notebooks.
Leave the original intact. Test a small notebook, then contact Amazon if the affected notebook still will not update.
Check another online Kindle action and confirm the same Amazon account before changing notebook data.
Record the exact wording and time. Do not delete, deregister or reset while recent work may be local only.
A notebook that appears on the Scribe but not in the app can be an app refresh or account problem. A notebook missing on both surfaces is more serious. Do not assume another sync will restore data that was never uploaded, and do not treat a blank app view as permission to erase the device copy.
CONFIRMED, BUT CONDITIONAL
Remove and redownload only after verifying the cloud copy
Amazon's handwriting-conversion guidance says that repeated sync-and-convert errors can be addressed by removing the notebook from the device and downloading it again. Amazon forum staff also suggest redownloading for persistent notebook display problems. This is not a general cure for a notebook whose latest pages may be local only.
- The complete notebook is visible on another Scribe or in the Kindle app.
- The newest page and a distinctive recent line are present there.
- You have opened a fresh PDF export of important work, when sharing is available.
- You understand that Remove download is different from deleting the notebook.
If any check fails, keep the Scribe copy intact and contact Amazon. Community reports include cases where redownloading did not repair the notebook, so present it to support as a documented option, not a guaranteed fix.
WHEN TO ESCALATE
Contact Amazon before the only good copy is disturbed
Contact Amazon when a notebook stays stale after the reversible sequence, when the Scribe reports that recent changes could not sync, when pages are missing on more than one surface, or when a small test notebook also fails. Escalate immediately if important writing disappears.
Give support the exact Scribe model, software version, Amazon account used, notebook name, approximate page count, last known good sync time, newest page visible on each surface, Wi-Fi test result and full error wording. Ask whether Amazon can confirm the cloud copy before you remove a download or reset the device.
