The short version

reMarkable software 3.28 introduces a Capture Tool that turns selected material into an image for reuse in notes. It also refreshes the EPUB reader, moves sharing controls into easier reach, adds more gray pen colors and extends image handling across connected cloud storage and the web app.

reMarkable's official notes identify this as a September 2026 release. The release-notes overview was last published on September 3, but the company does not give an exact rollout day or a device-by-device schedule. Owners may therefore receive the update at different times.

Capture Tool turns page content into a reusable image

The headline addition is Capture Tool. It lets a user circle content in a PDF, planner or other reference material, create an image from that selection and paste the result into notes. That should reduce the need to recreate a chart, diagram or visual excerpt by hand when assembling a working notebook.

It is a meaningful bridge between reading and writing, especially for people who annotate source material and then build a separate project notebook. reMarkable has not published format limits, quality measurements or a complete compatibility list in the overview, so those practical details still need testing on updated devices. Yeinks has not tested release 3.28.

What is included, and what requires Connect

TABLET UPDATE

Core 3.28 changes

  • Capture selected content as an image
  • Refreshed EPUB interface and formatting
  • Expanded EPUB language support
  • Share button moved to the main toolbar
  • More pen shades of gray
CONNECT WORKFLOW

Cloud and web changes

  • Import JPG and PNG files through Convert to Notebook
  • Pull images from Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive
  • Drag and drop files in the reMarkable web app

The cloud image import is explicitly listed as a Connect feature. reMarkable says Convert to Notebook can now take JPG and PNG files from Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive so they can be manipulated on a paper tablet. The company also says the web app now accepts drag-and-drop file organization.

That distinction matters for buyers comparing the hardware alone. The Capture Tool, reading changes and toolbar refinements are presented as part of release 3.28, while the connected cloud conversion workflow depends on the paid Connect service.

EPUB reading and everyday controls also change

reMarkable describes an EPUB reading refresh with interface improvements, better formatting and broader language support. The overview does not list the newly supported languages, so readers should not assume a particular language or book will render differently until they can verify it on their own library.

The share button now sits in the main toolbar and the share menu has been streamlined. Gray pen colors have also been expanded and adjusted to make shades easier to distinguish. Those are smaller changes than Capture Tool, but they affect common tasks instead of adding another isolated service.

Why it matters to owners

Version 3.28 continues reMarkable's shift from a self-contained digital notebook toward a workspace that can pull in and reorganize material from other sources. The most useful improvement is not simply making an image: it is shortening the route from a reference page to a note that can be rearranged and developed.

Owners who primarily handwrite in blank notebooks may see less benefit. Readers who work across PDFs, EPUB books, cloud drives and project notes have more reason to update, although they should confirm the Connect requirement before expecting the full workflow.

What remains unconfirmed

reMarkable has not stated an exact universal rollout date, named every compatible device in the overview or documented the Capture Tool's technical limits there. The release notes also do not claim that imported images can be edited like native handwriting. Those details should remain open until fuller support documentation or hands-on testing confirms them.
