reMarkable Paper Pure
review

A beautifully focused black-and-white notebook that still refuses to become a tablet.

HOW THIS REVIEW WAS MADE

We have not tested this device ourselves.

This review combines five professional reviews, one video review and three owner discussions. We compared writing feel, display contrast, software, battery life and reMarkable’s official claims.

The charts show how often a theme appeared across the 9 sources we coded. They are directional, not scientific scores. A report can reveal a problem, but it cannot tell us how common that problem is.

THE SHORT VERSION

The reMarkable most people should buy, if focus is the feature they want.

Paper Pure replaces reMarkable 2 with a brighter-looking monochrome screen, faster response, better contrast and substantially longer claimed battery life. Reviewers repeatedly praise the writing feel, simple organization and absence of distracting apps.

It has no color, no front light, no app store and no typing cover. Some cloud and mobile features still sit behind Connect. Those omissions make it a poor general tablet but help it work as a calm digital notebook.

Best forWriters, students and meeting-heavy workers who want handwriting and PDFs without apps or notifications.

DISPLAY & DESIGN

A cleaner monochrome page that feels immediate

Paper Pure keeps the familiar full-size notebook format but improves contrast and responsiveness over reMarkable 2. reMarkable claims 20% higher contrast and 50% faster performance, and reviewers consistently describe the page as clearer and quicker.

The matte glass surface provides controlled friction rather than the slippery feel of an iPad. There is still no front light, so good ambient lighting matters. The thin, restrained hardware is easy to carry, but older reMarkable 2 pens are not compatible.

WRITING & SOFTWARE

Very good at notes because it ignores almost everything else

Writing, erasing, moving selections, layers, templates and handwriting conversion are presented without much setup. The operating system is approachable for non-technical users and syncs through reMarkable desktop and mobile apps.

There is no web browser, app store or conventional multitasking. PDFs and supported cloud files can be imported, annotated and exported, but Kindle books and most commercial ebook stores are absent. Some extended cloud, mobile editing and AI features require Connect.

BATTERY

A meaningful step beyond reMarkable 2

reMarkable claims up to three weeks per charge when used for up to one hour a day. Reviewers generally see battery life as improved, although intensive daily writing and syncing shorten the result.

Three weeks is a controlled claim, not continuous writing time. Compare habits, not just headline weeks.

YEINKS VERDICT

The clearest expression of what reMarkable is good at.

Paper Pure does not win a feature checklist. It wins by making handwritten thinking easy to begin and difficult to interrupt. The faster display and longer battery improve that idea without changing it.

If missing apps feel like a problem, buy something else. If notifications and complexity are the problem, Paper Pure is one of the most coherent digital notebooks available.

Strong fitHandwritten notes, meetings, study, journaling, PDF markup and distraction-free planning
Weak fitNight reading, color work, third-party apps, Kindle books and broad tablet use
