QUICK ANSWER
Test the screen before blaming your handwriting.
Create a blank notebook page and choose the thin fineliner. Remove the folio and nearby magnetic accessories, then draw slow horizontal and vertical lines across the whole screen. Repeat with your palm resting normally and with your hand held off the display. If the same area bends, skips or renders away from the Marker tip every time, film the test and contact reMarkable or your retailer. Do not press harder, recalibrate with unofficial tools or factory-reset your notes.
MAP THE PROBLEM
Find out whether the fault stays put
Recent Paper Pure owners have described strokes appearing beside the Marker tip, compressed handwriting and short gaps near an edge. Several reports point to the lower-left area, but others describe a different region and some owners report no inaccuracy at all. That is enough to justify a careful test, not a claim that every Paper Pure has a defect.
Use the fineliner because reMarkable describes it as producing an even stroke regardless of Marker angle. A pencil or pressure-sensitive pen can make a simple comparison harder to read.
Hand lifted
The important detail is location. A line that consistently jumps in the same physical part of the display points somewhere different from a line that fails wherever one Marker is used.
SAFE CHECKS
Change one variable at a time
- Save what you are working on.Let the tablet sync, then confirm an important recent notebook in the reMarkable app or web library before troubleshooting. None of the checks below should erase data.
- Clean and inspect the writing setup.Wipe the display with a clean, dry microfiber cloth. Check that the Marker tip is straight and seated normally. If it is visibly worn, fit one fresh official tip.
- Remove the folio and magnetic objects.Test the bare tablet on a plain table, away from a laptop, magnetic stand or stacked device. This isolates the screen and Marker without declaring magnets to be the cause.
- Run the grid with and without your palm.Keep the same fineliner, thickness and writing angle. Do not push on the screen. Note whether the bad area stays fixed or changes when your hand no longer rests on the display.
- Compare one other notebook. If a blank page works, repeat the same strokes in the document where you noticed the problem. A file-specific result deserves different evidence from a fixed display zone.
- Restart and check for an official update.Restart normally, then go to Menu, Settings, Software and Version. reMarkable recommends current software, but it has not published a Paper Pure pen-offset fix, so do not promise that updating will solve it.
- Compare another compatible Marker if one is already available.Borrowing one briefly can separate a Marker problem from a screen zone. Do not buy several pens before mapping the fault.
Do not factory-reset the tablet, enter developer mode, install unofficial calibration tools, squeeze or press the display, open the case or place magnets around a suspected zone. Those steps can risk notes, hardware or warranty coverage without producing cleaner evidence.
READ THE RESULT
Your pattern matters more than one messy line
Record the zone and contact support or the retailer. Another pen is useful evidence, but a reset is not the next step.
Fit one fresh official tip. If available, compare a compatible Marker before buying more accessories.
Record both versions. Change hand position as a workaround, but report it if normal writing remains unreliable.
Repeat in the problem file and another notebook. Preserve the file if support needs an example.
Some owners say the symptom changes when they lift or move their palm. That makes a useful comparison, but reMarkable lists palm rejection as a Paper Pure feature. If ordinary writing remains unreliable, record the result and escalate it rather than permanently adapting around a new tablet.
If you need broader stylus checks, Yeinks has a separate cross-brand E-Ink pen checklist. This guide stays narrow: a Paper Pure that writes accurately in most places but repeatedly shifts, compresses or drops strokes in a particular area.
WHEN TO ESCALATE
Send support a test they can see
Make one short video with the Paper Pure lying flat. Keep both the Marker tip and rendered stroke in frame. Show the blank-page grid, then repeat the affected area with your palm lifted. Do not include private notebook content, account details or the device serial number in a public post.
Tell reMarkable the device model, software version, Marker and tip used, whether the folio was removed, where the fault occurs, whether it follows a second Marker and whether it changes with hand position. Include a photo of the completed grid as well as the video. That is more useful than saying the writing “feels off”.
reMarkable’s current limited warranty covers manufacturing defects for one year on eligible purchases, subject to its terms and local consumer rights. Its 50-day satisfaction guarantee applies to orders placed at remarkable.com; another retailer has its own return process. Check the live policy and let reMarkable or the seller decide whether the evidence qualifies for return, repair or replacement.
Replacement is not a guaranteed cure. Owner reports include both accurate units and repeat trouble, so test any replacement during its return window using the same page and keep the original support record.
