QUICK ANSWER
Keep three links alive: the radio, audio and the app.
If a BOOX audiobook, podcast or music app stops only when the screen sleeps, open the BOOX Settings app and find its Power or Battery controls. Set audio to remain active after sleep. If you use wireless headphones or a speaker, set Bluetooth to stay connected as well. Then make sure the player is not frozen and is allowed to work in the background. Change only those settings, because each one can increase battery use.
FIND THE BREAK
Screen sleep, Bluetooth and playback are separate
A BOOX screen can show its screensaver while Android continues limited background work. Audio still stops if any link in the chain is suspended. Recent owner reports describe the same visible result from different causes: Bluetooth switches off, audio is paused, a third-party player is frozen, or Wi-Fi drops during streaming.
Test with a short track and note exactly when it stops. Press the power button once to enter sleep. Do not wait for automatic shutdown, because a fully powered-off BOOX cannot keep an app or radio running.
Sleep controls
Keep audio active after sleep. Keep Bluetooth active too when headphones or a speaker are involved.
Audio or app activity
Check the separate audio-after-sleep control, then unfreeze only the player and allow its background activity.
Wi-Fi or app activity
Keep Wi-Fi active for the test and check the player is allowed to continue in the background.
Pairing or device fault
Test the same headphones elsewhere, toggle Bluetooth once and re-pair only if the awake connection is also unstable.
REVERSIBLE CHECKS
Change the narrowest settings first
Use the BOOX Settings app from the Home screen, not Android's generic Settings panel. BOOX moves labels between firmware releases, so look for equivalent controls if the wording below differs.
- Confirm playback works while awake.Play the same downloaded track for a few minutes. If it already pauses, crashes or loses Bluetooth while the screen is on, skip to the pairing and support sections.
- Keep audio active after sleep.Open the BOOX Power or Battery settings and find Audio Status After Sleep, Delay disconnect Audio after Sleep or similar. Choose Stay Connected, On or a short delay long enough for your listening session.
- Keep Bluetooth active when it carries the sound. In the same Power area, set Bluetooth Status After Sleep to stay connected. Some firmware also offers Always turn Bluetooth on when the device starts up. That startup option helps after a reboot, not an app that pauses while Bluetooth remains connected.
- Keep Wi-Fi active only for streaming.A downloaded audiobook does not need Wi-Fi. Spotify, Hoopla and other streaming services usually do. Keep Wi-Fi connected for one test, then turn the retention setting back off if it makes no difference.
- Unfreeze only the player.Long-press the app icon or open Settings > Apps & Notifications. Turn Freeze off for that app. If the firmware offers Stay active in the background, Auto Start or an unrestricted battery option, enable only what the player needs.
- Repeat one controlled sleep test.Use the same track, output device and sleep timing. If it now continues, return and disable any extra setting that was not required.
Those steps can remove downloads, sign-ins, settings or unsynced local data. They do not belong ahead of the power and background controls that directly govern sleep playback.
IF THE CONNECTION ITSELF FAILS
Re-pair only when Bluetooth is unstable while awake
BOOX's current user guide places Bluetooth in the Home screen Settings or Control Center. Confirm the headphones, speaker, keyboard or remote still appears as connected after waking the device. If it disconnects even while the screen is awake, test the accessory with a phone or computer, then toggle BOOX Bluetooth off and on once.
Forget and re-pair the accessory only if the awake connection remains unreliable. This is a workaround for pairing state, not the first fix for a sleep-only interruption. Repeatedly deleting pairings can hide whether the Power setting was the real trigger.
If every Bluetooth accessory drops on the BOOX but works elsewhere, record the model, firmware build and time of the disconnect. That pattern is more useful to support than another round of random pairing.
THE TRADE-OFF
Background audio costs battery
BOOX's power guidance warns that third-party apps and Wi-Fi or Bluetooth connections use more energy than an idle sleeping reader. Its App Management guide also warns that auto-starting apps can increase power use and slow the device. Keeping everything awake is therefore a poor default.
Keep audio and Bluetooth active. Leave Wi-Fi off after confirming the file is stored locally.
Keep audio plus the required radio active. Expect more drain than with a downloaded file.
Keep audio active. Bluetooth can remain off unless another accessory needs it.
Restore the shorter sleep delays if standby time matters more than instant playback.
Change one setting at a time and compare battery loss over a normal session. Do not deliberately deep-discharge the battery to test it.
WHEN TO STOP
Send BOOX one clean reproduction
If playback still stops after the matching sleep controls are enabled and the player is not frozen, restart the BOOX once and repeat the same short test. If the result persists, open Settings > Feedback or FAQ & Feedback. Enable local log saving if offered, reproduce the interruption once, then submit Feedback with encrypted logs selected.
Include the BOOX model, full firmware build, app and version, whether the file was downloaded or streamed, the output device, the exact sleep settings and the time playback stopped. Do not include account passwords or publish the device serial number in a forum.
Stop earlier if the device becomes unusually hot, restarts, loses all Bluetooth accessories while awake or shows rapid battery loss with the radios off. Those symptoms need an individual BOOX assessment rather than broader background access.

What is confirmed
BOOX documentation and owner reports were checked on October 10, 2026. BOOX confirms that Freeze prevents background operation, that Auto Start can increase power use, and that software faults should be sent through Feedback with logs. Recent and earlier owner reports were used to identify the separate Bluetooth, audio, Wi-Fi and app controls. They do not establish how common the problem is, and Yeinks has not reproduced it on a device.
