Kindle Scribe gives you the Kindle store, your existing Kindle library, adjustable type, a front light and the familiar Kindle reading experience. Its 300ppi screen is especially useful for small text and detailed documents.
reMarkable 2 reads PDF and EPUB files, but it is not a conventional e-reader. There is no Kindle store, and the lack of a front light makes evening reading dependent on the room around you. If books are even half the reason you are buying, the Scribe is the safer choice.
WRITING
reMarkable still offers the more deliberate notebook experience.
Professional reviews and long-term owners consistently favor reMarkable for writing feel, notebook organization and focused document work. Its software was designed around creating and revisiting notes, not added to an e-reader later.
The current Scribe is much faster than earlier models and Amazon has improved notebooks, in-book writing and AI-powered search. It is no longer fair to call writing an afterthought. It is still a simpler system, which can be a strength for journals and basic notes but a limitation for complex projects.
SCREEN AND LIGHT
Amazon gives you a sharper, larger and more adaptable screen.
The current Scribe has an 11-inch 300ppi display and an adjustable front light. reMarkable 2 uses a 10.3-inch 226ppi display with no light. The reMarkable can feel more paper-like to write on, while the Scribe is easier to read in more places.
Do not confuse screen sharpness with writing quality. The Scribe has the higher resolution, but surface texture, pen behavior and software all affect whether a device feels satisfying as a notebook.
FILES AND WORKFLOW
Both are intentionally limited, just in different directions.
The new Scribe can import documents from Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, export annotated PDFs and share notebooks with OneNote. It remains tied closely to Amazon’s reading and document system.
reMarkable centers its own cloud workflow and document integrations. Its clean interface is a major part of the appeal, but buyers should check which Connect features and integrations are included before choosing an older device.
VALUE IN 2026
A discounted reMarkable 2 can make sense. An expensive one does not.
Because reMarkable 2 is discontinued, this comparison now depends heavily on price. A clean refurbished unit can still be an excellent focused notebook.
