HOW THIS REVIEW WAS MADE

We have not tested this device ourselves.

This review combines three long-form video reviews, three written reviews and four long-term owner discussions. Because reMarkable 2 launched in 2020 and is now discontinued, we gave extra weight to durability and present-day value.

The charts show how often a theme appeared across the 10 sources we coded. They are directional, not scientific scores. A report can reveal a problem, but it cannot tell us how common that problem is.

THE SHORT VERSION

Still lovely to write on, but no longer the obvious reMarkable to buy new.

reMarkable 2 remains thin, elegant and exceptionally focused. Its paper-like writing, clean software and distraction-free approach have aged well, and years of updates have added typed text, tags, cloud integrations and better document tools.

Its age is now visible. There is no reading light, the 226ppi screen is less sharp than newer 300ppi devices, performance is modest, and the sealed battery is not designed for easy replacement. Used pricing determines whether it is still compelling.

Best forPeople wanting a calm monochrome notebook at a sensible used or clearance price.

DESIGN & WRITING

Six years later, it still looks remarkably modern

The 10.3-inch monochrome screen is surrounded by a very thin aluminum body. At roughly 403g, it is comfortable on a desk and lighter than many full-size tablets. The textured display and passive Marker pen create a convincing pencil-like feel without charging the pen.

The display runs at 226 pixels per inch. Text is perfectly readable, but fine lettering and PDFs look softer beside current 300ppi screens. There is no front light, so it needs the same room lighting as paper.

NOTES & SOFTWARE

Focused software with a narrow definition of work

reMarkable OS is easy to understand. It handles notebooks, layers, templates, tags, handwriting conversion and PDF annotation without surrounding them with notifications or entertainment apps. Desktop and mobile apps make file transfer straightforward.

It does not offer an app store, Kindle access or broad third-party tools. Some cloud and collaboration features depend on Connect. Owners who expect a complete knowledge-management system may also find linking and organization less powerful than Supernote.

BATTERY

Still measured in days, though old batteries vary

reMarkable originally claimed up to two weeks based on about two hours of daily reading and writing. Long-term owners report anything from several days to around two weeks, with battery age becoming increasingly important on used devices.

YEINKS VERDICT

A design classic entering its value-buy era.

reMarkable 2 still does its main job beautifully. Handwriting feels natural, the interface stays out of the way and the hardware remains unusually elegant.

It should no longer command a premium price. Choose it used or discounted if monochrome focus is all you need. Choose a newer model when sharper text, repairability, lighting or longer support matters.

Strong fitFocused handwriting, meeting notes, distraction-free work and value-conscious used buyers
Weak fitNight reading, app-based workflows, detailed PDFs and buyers expecting modern repairability
