HOW THIS REVIEW WAS MADE
We have not tested this device ourselves.
This review combines three professional written reviews, two detailed video reviews and five owner discussions. We compared writing, app behavior, display quality, battery life, reliability and BOOX’s official specifications.
The charts show how often a theme appeared across the 10 sources we coded. They are directional, not scientific scores. A report can reveal a problem, but it cannot tell us how common that problem is.
THE SHORT VERSION
The most capable color E-Ink notebook here, but also one of the busiest.
Note Air5 C combines a 10.3-inch color E-Ink screen, excellent handwriting tools, Android 15, Google Play, expandable storage and optional keyboard support. Reviewers repeatedly praise its flexibility and responsive pen, especially for people who need several reading and productivity apps.
It demands more patience than a Kindle, reMarkable or Supernote. The interface has many settings, third-party apps do not always behave perfectly on E-Ink, and the tablet is fairly heavy. Battery life is much better than an iPad, but shorter than simpler E-Ink notebooks.

DISPLAY & DESIGN
A practical color screen with E-Ink compromises
The 10.3-inch Kaleido 3 panel displays black-and-white content at 300ppi and color at 150ppi. Text is sharp, while color is muted and the screen background looks grayer than a monochrome reader. BOOX Super Refresh Technology helps scrolling and app movement look smoother, although faster modes can leave more ghosting.
The asymmetric body gives the hand somewhere to rest and supports magnetic keyboard accessories, but reviewers often call the tablet heavy. A microSD slot, speakers, microphone and USB-C add practical flexibility that focused notebooks usually leave out.
WRITING & SOFTWARE
Powerful enough to replace several apps, complicated enough to need a setup day
The native Notes app is one of the device’s strongest features, with layers, shapes, handwriting recognition, links, templates and broad export choices. The redesigned pen is widely described as responsive and comfortable.
Android 15 and Google Play allow Kindle, Kobo, OneNote, Google Drive and many other services. That freedom is the main reason to buy BOOX, but ordinary Android apps were designed for glowing screens and animations. BOOX offers per-app refresh controls, so good results often require experimentation rather than simply signing in and starting work.
BATTERY
Good for Android, ordinary for modern E-Ink
The 3,700mAh battery can cover several workdays under moderate note-taking and reading, but refresh mode, front lighting, Wi-Fi and Android background activity make owner reports vary. Heavy productivity use can require much more frequent charging.
BOOX does not offer one simple real-world battery figure. Faster refresh modes and always-on connections trade endurance for convenience.

WHERE TO BUY
BOOX Note Air5 C
Buy from a retailer with a clear returns process. BOOX rewards careful setup, but it is worth protecting yourself if the screen or software does not suit your workflow.

A small computer that happens to feel like paper.
Note Air5 C wins on range. It can be a notebook, PDF reader, Kindle, research library, document editor and distraction-reduced Android tablet. Few competitors connect those roles so convincingly.
That flexibility is not the same as simplicity. If you want to open a notebook and forget about settings, Supernote or reMarkable is calmer. If you want one E-Ink device to bend around an existing collection of apps, BOOX is the stronger fit.
