HOW THIS REVIEW WAS MADE

We have not tested this device ourselves.

This review combines four professional reviews, two detailed video reviews and three owner discussions. We separate the unlit Classic model from the Lumi version where lighting changes the experience.

The charts show how often a theme appeared across the 9 sources we coded. They are directional, not scientific scores. A report can reveal a problem, but it cannot tell us how common that problem is.

THE SHORT VERSION

One of the best monochrome BOOX devices, once you choose the right version.

Go 10.3 Gen II combines a crisp 300ppi screen, Android 15, Google Play and BOOX’s capable note tools in a thin, travel-friendly body. Reviews consistently praise text clarity, broad reading-app support and the freedom to use different ebook stores.

The Classic model has no front light and offers the cleanest paper-like screen. Lumi adds warm and cool lighting for night use. Both require more setup than a Kindle or reMarkable, and some reviewers find the active pen less natural than traditional EMR pens.

Best forReaders and note-takers who want a sharp monochrome page plus access to several Android reading and cloud apps.

DISPLAY & VERSIONS

The same sharp page, with or without built-in lighting

The 10.3-inch monochrome panel renders at 2480 × 1860 and 300ppi. Text and line art look excellent, particularly on the Classic model without a light-guide layer.

Lumi adds adjustable dual-tone front lighting and is better for travel or bedtime reading, at a slightly higher price. Faster refresh settings make Android apps feel smoother but can increase ghosting, so each app may need a little tuning.

WRITING & SOFTWARE

Open enough for many libraries, focused enough for serious notes

BOOX Notes includes layers, links, shapes, handwriting recognition and export options. The new active pen divides opinion: several reviewers like its balance and response, while experienced EMR users still prefer a battery-free stylus.

Android 15 and Google Play support Kindle, Kobo, Libby, cloud drives and other services. This flexibility is the central advantage over Kindle and reMarkable, but Android menus and E-Ink optimization add complexity for non-technical users.

BATTERY

Strong in simple use, variable once Android gets busy

Reading offline with wireless disabled can last far longer than app-heavy work. Wi-Fi, front lighting on Lumi, background syncing and fast refresh modes all shorten runtime.

Battery reports vary too widely for a single honest promise. Classic removes lighting drain, while Lumi trades some endurance for flexibility.

YEINKS VERDICT

A flexible monochrome notebook that keeps reading quality first.

Go 10.3 Gen II is unusually convincing as both a large reader and a digital notebook. The sharp display and open app access make it easier to consolidate several libraries without moving to color.

It is not as immediately simple as Kindle or reMarkable. Buyers willing to spend time on settings get much more freedom in return.

Strong fitMultiple ebook services, monochrome PDFs, travel, handwritten notes and cloud-app workflows
Weak fitPeople who dislike settings, color documents, vivid media and buyers already satisfied with Gen I
