The short version
Supernote is testing plugin support, a customizable note and document toolbar, more flexible content transforms and several improvements aimed at handwriting reliability. The update also fixes browser access, grayscale display, daylight saving time and exported PDF annotations.
Plugins are the biggest change
Chauvet 3.29.43 beta adds plugin functionality inside Note and Document. InkHub also gains Plugins as a new resource type. Supernote has not yet shown how broad the plugin ecosystem will become, so this is better viewed as the foundation for future extensions than a finished app platform.
For non-technical users, the important point is simple: Supernote is creating a controlled way to add extra tools without turning the Manta or Nomad into a general-purpose Android tablet.
The toolbar can finally adapt to you
The main toolbar can now be customized, while related tools are grouped into shared entries. You can also long-press different parts of the screen with the pen to reach frequently used tools. That should reduce toolbar clutter, although it may take existing users a little time to rebuild their muscle memory.
Handwriting and editing improvements
Selected handwriting can be flipped horizontally or vertically. Shapes and plugin images can be stretched without keeping their original proportions. Rotation now shows the angle in real time, and tapping the rotate control turns selected content by 90 degrees.
Supernote has also replaced the simple left-handed or right-handed choice with eight writing postures. The calligraphy pen adjusts to those postures, handwriting recognition has been improved and the beta reduces non-contact writing with some EMR pens on Nomad.
Useful PDF and navigation changes
The quick page-turning window now shows multiple page previews. PDFs gain right-to-left text selection, including Hebrew, and Bluetooth media buttons can turn document pages. Exported handwritten annotations should also stop appearing offset in macOS Preview.
Fixes worth knowing about
- Restores the full 16 grayscale levels after an issue showed only 15.
- Fixes some websites failing to open in the built-in browser.
- Corrects daylight saving time in affected regions.
- Stops Needle-point Pen widths resetting after sleep.
- Improves sync-conflict detection and file-path visibility.
- Reduces unintended exits when using sidebar gestures for the lasso or region eraser.
Should you install it?
If you enjoy testing new software and have a reliable backup, the plugin and toolbar changes make this an interesting beta. If your Supernote holds work you cannot afford to disrupt, waiting for the stable release is the sensible choice.
