QUICK ANSWER
Check hand dominance first, then test undo and lasso separately in a new note.
In right-handed mode, a one-finger upward swipe on the left sidebar is undo; downward is redo. Left-handed mode reverses which sidebar carries those actions. For the screen lasso, enable it under Settings > Display & Input > Gestures, hold two fingers away from your writing hand, then circle handwriting with the pen. If both still fail consistently, check for a stable system update and send Supernote a reproducible report.
START WITH THE MAPPING
Find out whether the sidebar is reading the wrong direction
Supernote's Nomad sidebar guide assigns undo and redo to opposite swipe directions on one sidebar. In right-handed mode, swipe up on the left bar for undo and down for redo. In left-handed mode, those actions move to the right bar. The other sidebar controls the menu and refresh.
- Confirm your hand-dominance setting. On stable software, Supernote documents it under Settings > Display & Input > Gestures > Hand Dominance. A beta interface can differ, so follow the labels actually shown on your device.
- Make a disposable test mark in a new note.Swipe once deliberately from low to high on the undo sidebar, then high to low for redo. Testing after a real edit makes the result unambiguous; “nothing to redo” can otherwise simply mean there is no redo action available.
- Compare with the toolbar buttons. If the toolbar reliably undoes the mark but the sidebar repeatedly registers the opposite direction, record that difference. It narrows the problem to gesture input rather than note history.
Do not change several settings at once. A clear before-and-after result is more useful than repeatedly swiping until something happens.
IF LASSO DRAWS A LINE
Verify the lasso preference and separate your fingers from the pen
Supernote lets you assign the two-finger hold on the sidebar and on the screen independently to lasso, region eraser or off. Check Eraser & Lasso Gesture Preferences in Settings > Display & Input > Gestures before treating a missing lasso as a fault.
- Open an ordinary notebook.Test on handwriting in Notes. The lasso is not available in Atelier or Mail, and the lasso preference does not work in Digest or Calendar, where that tool is unavailable.
- Hold two fingers before moving the pen.Keep them steady and away from your dominant hand. Supernote recommends positioning the fingers above or below that hand; its two-finger technique guide also recommends placing fingers before the pen and keeping a moderate distance between them.
- Test with your palm off the screen once.If the lasso works in this controlled posture but fails only during your usual writing grip, that suggests contact and positioning affect recognition. It does not establish that the screen is defective.
If the pen draws instead of selecting, undo the test stroke with the toolbar and repeat once with the screen and sidebar preference checked. Avoid experimenting on irreplaceable notes.
RULE OUT SOFTWARE
Check the stable release, but do not assume an update is a guaranteed cure
Supernote's Manta and Nomad changelog documents improvements to two-finger activation and earlier sidebar reliability fixes. That makes an available stable update worth checking; it does not prove that every current missed gesture has the same cause. Supernote's update guide directs owners to connect to Wi-Fi, then use Settings > System > Check.
After updating, repeat the same new-note tests. If a gesture works in one app but not another, verify that the tool is supported in that app before calling it an input failure. If pen strokes work but neither sidebar nor ordinary finger controls register reliably, describe that broader symptom to support. Do not use an A5 X-only touch repair procedure on a Nomad.
WHEN IT PERSISTS
Give support the exact failing gesture and a repeatable test
Record the device model, system version, hand-dominance setting, which sidebar and swipe direction you tried, which app was open, and whether the toolbar action works. For lasso, note whether it succeeds with your palm lifted and whether the on-screen and sidebar preferences differ. Send that information through the device's Feedback option or Supernote support; include system logs if the Feedback form offers them.
There is no evidence here that a factory reset or opening the Nomad is the right first step. Preserve your notes and let support assess a reproducible failure before attempting either.
